ASTM Aerospace Material Standards

ASTM’s aerospace material standards are instrumental in evaluating materials, components, and devices primarily used in aerospace and aircraft industries. The aerospace material standards allow various companies around the world to test these materials in order to evaluate their thermal, optical, mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties.

These materials may be in the solid, liquid, or gas phase. The components and devices are also tested in order to determine their performance and safety operation. The aerospace material standards also discuss the design and safety operation of various engines to be used in unmanned aircraft systems and airplanes.

These standards also help identify procedures for unmanned aircraft systems’ visual range flight operations, airworthiness, maintenance manuals, and aviation regulations.

ASTM Committee on Aerospace Personnel

ASTM technical committee F46 on Aerospace Personnel currently supports the technical standards development which updates and maintains the ASTM NCATT certification program. ASTM Committee F46 on Aerospace Personnel was formed in 2014. The Committee meets annually, with about 20-30 members attending 2 days of technical meetings.

F46 has 7 technical subcommittees that develop and maintain standards. These standards have and continue to play a preeminent role in all aspects of aerospace personnel education, training, qualifications and certifications.
